What is Chi Maker Fest?
Chicago Northside Maker Fest originated in 2011, as a local grassroots effort that reflects how our city’s youth define Making. Schurz High School is the host of this largest, longest running celebration of the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) spirit in Chicago. Maker Fest focuses on education of all forms–educators teaching educators, amateurs teaching professionals, students teaching families. Every year, at least one half of the exhibits are run by young makers (ages 18 or younger), showcasing a broad range of talents, from Digital Media and design, to up-cycling, to 3D printing and electronics. Our other makers include sponsors who believe in democratic education, museums which invest in hands-on learning, hackerspaces and makerspaces that build awesome things, and local organizations at the forefront of transformative education and imaginative technologies that preserve our future. On May 2, 2020 we present our 9th Annual Chicago Northside Maker Fest, with an anticipated 100+ makers and 2,000+ attendees. Come join the fun!
